RuPaul has responded via Instagram with a throwback clip of him 'slapping' Tyra following her controversial posts about the recently deceased The Vivienne, who was celebrated as the first winner of RuPaul's Drag Race UK.

The drag community is in mourning after Sunday's announcement that James Lee Williams, better known as The Vivienne, passed away at only 32-years-old, resulting in an outpouring of tributes.

Tyra, 36, who was winner of the US show's second season, faced backlash for distasteful tweets following the sad news.

Some supporters are now urging RuPaul, 64, to revoke Tyra's title following her recent shocking remarks, the Mirror reports.

RuPaul has now seemingly responded to the controversy, with an Instagram throwback showing an acting challenge from the 2010 series finale, where he appears to 'slap' Tyra. His post was made without comment this Wednesday.

In what appeared to be a rebuttal, Tyra uploaded a drawing portraying RuPaul as a marionette, captioned: "Right back at ya. Puppet." Tyra, formerly known as Tyra Sanchez, further addressed the issue on her Instagram Story.

The message stated: "I am immensely thankful to everyone visiting my page this week. Whether showing love or showing your a**, you increased my page's reach TREMENDOUSLY. Welcome to all new followers! Two fingers in the sky to those who have left us.

"Special shoutouts to the ones who truly hate me yet hang around watching my every move. With you hanging around here you've increased the reach by 95%. Silly rabbits. You work for me. It is because of you that my name LIVES on."

This was Tyra's retort, whose real name is James Ross, following a public rebuke sparked by their Sunday tweet about the Vivienne.

She had quote-tweeted an old post by the deceased drag queen, which said: "Bet Tyra was fuming when she realised Netflix spoiled the win too. Sorry gal. You tried though." To which Tyra sharply responded: "Yet it doesn't compare to the fumes of the crematorium."

Pursuing the matter further, Tyra fired back in another post: "She's dead. Rotting. Sending me all the hate in the world won't bring her back. But do as you must. Because of you the tweet has reached over 25k individuals. Thanks for the much needed attention that I oh so desperately needed."

Amidst a storm of criticism from fans and former contestants who labelled her "vile" and "disgusting," Tyra Sanchez hit back with a scathing message: "Calling for a crown/title that I could give two f***s about is stupid. You're the only ones caught up in that fairytale. It means absolutely nothing. Y'all been hollering 15min for 15 years. F*** that crown. F*** @RuPaul F*** @RuPaulsDragRace F*** @WorldOfWonder and f*** you too! "

In what appeared to be a reaction to the backlash, Tyra later posted: "They troll. Hanging around with bated breath waiting for the next tweet. They reply instantly with their hate garnering more attention while increasing the reach of each previous tweet. Yet I'm delusional? You can't help yourselves. I get it. Silly rabbits."

The controversy escalated when Tyra shared a video captioned "songs I would play if I owned a crematorium" featuring Alicia Keys' "Girl on Fire."

This follows shortly after RuPaul had honoured the Vivienne with a heartfelt post, sharing a photo of them together and writing: "With a broken heart, I join the entire Drag Race universe in mourning the loss of the Vivienne - an incredibly talented queen and a lovely human being."
