TV favourite Lorraine Kelly has shared her deep affection for the Orkney Islands, revealing her potential plans to potentially move there after she retires. In an intimate chat with The People’s Friend Special, the 65-year-old presenter discussed her future and her connection to Scotland.
She mentioned a conversation with her daughter Rosie about returning to their roots: "Rosie and I were talking about it the other day and we think we’ll eventually all end up coming back to Scotland. I miss Dundee a lot. Rosie loved it there and still does."
Lorraine also opened up about her close bond with her daughter Rosie, who recently became a mother. She recalled a special moment on Orkney when Rosie announced her pregnancy: "My daughter, Rosie, came with me, and it was during that trip she told me she was pregnant. It was the best, so exciting, but I couldn’t tell anyone because it was so early on."
Despite just launching her debut novel, 'The Island Swimmer', which has become a bestseller, Lorraine hinted at a second book in the works.
Celebrating the success of her literary venture, she posted on Instagram with a snapshot from Orkney, captioned: "Celebrating in Orkney with my lovely pal Nick when my first novel The Island Swimmer became a best seller this year!"
Lorraine expressed her gratitude to her fans, saying: "THANK YOU to everyone who bought the book - I have been overwhelmed by your lovely comments - it’s on offer right now if you need a wee extra Xmas pressie. I’m working hard on the follow up!"
In addition to discussing her novels, Lorraine also spoke about her 40-year career in television, which has made her one of the nation's most beloved personalities.
In an interview with The Yorkshire Post, she shared her thoughts on her future and ageing: "I’d like to keep on doing my show for as long as people want to watch. I’d like to keep on doing my show for as long as people want to watch."
Lorraine also mentioned: "I didn’t expect to still be here (on television) at 65, but I am so happy to be doing the job I love after 40 years. It’s wonderful and it’s down to all the fantastic people I have worked with, my top team and the viewers who have been so loyal and shown me such support."
Her views on ageing are clear: "I think age is just a number – I am lucky to be surrounded at work by a young enthusiastic team who are fantastic and they keep me young. I eat what I like and I walk my wee dog and try to keep as healthy as possible."
