The Traitors' Alexander Dragonetti fans donate £46k to charity after being inspired by BBC star

The Traitors' finalist Alexander Dragonetti may have missed out on winning the BBC show but his loyal fans have made sure that the learning disability charity he had been planning to donate his winnings to have still received a huge sum of cash.

Over 3,000 fans have raised an incredible £46k for the UK based charity Mencap after Alexander expressed his desire to give his prize money to them if he won the show after the support the charity gave his late brother.

Former British diplomat Alexander, who attended Oundle School, Northamptonshire, revealed on the show that his brother had global development delay and autism and used to go to summer camps set up by Mencap.

The 38-year-old, who was a Faithful through out the entire game, vowed to give some of his jackpot to the organisation before he was banished from the castle in the final episode out of fears he was a Traitor.

The Traitors' star has now told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire he is "so grateful" for the donations, which is even more than what he would have earned in his share of the prize pot.

He added: "Anything I can do to try and raise the profile of that would be fantastic. I know first-hand it's really hard for carers, parents, siblings of special needs children to both look after children and be political advocates, and if there is anything I can do to add my voice to that and be helpful then that would be my most proud takeaway."

Mencap have now released a touching video, singing Alexander's impression of a backwards nursery rhyme on the show, and thanking everyone for their generosity.

The post reads: "Traitors Fans are faithful till the end. Since Friday, over £46,000 has been donated to Mencap by over 3,000 people after hearing Alexander Dragonetti's story!

"Thank you so much for your support. This will help us to tackle the inequalities faced by people with a learning disability, helping them to lead happy, healthy lives."

Jon Sparkes, chief executive of the charity, said: "Telling his story has inspired a tremendous wave of generosity from the public."

Alexander was beaten to the £94k prize pot by fellow Faithfuls Leanne Quigley and Jake Brown, who suspected that he was a Traitor among them in the final episode of the BBC show.
