Olly Murs reveals he once 'crept away' from Prince William after awkward situation
Singer Olly Murs has told how he had to 'creep away' from Prince William after causing a big tailback of celebrities all waiting to meet the new Prince Of Wales at the King's Coronation
by Michael Moran · Daily RecordSinger Olly Murs has shared an amusing anecdote about his encounter with Prince William at the King's Coronation. He managed to engage the future king in a conversation about football, causing a bit of a stir among other celebrities waiting to meet the new Prince Of Wales at the royal event.
Olly was introduced to Prince William after the Coronation concert in May last year. "There was a free bar backstage," he said, adding: "Drink whatever you want. I'm like, 'Happy days.' We get a few gin and tonics in, and then a lady came up and said 'Prince William and Princess Kate would like a word with you'."
Feeling slightly out of his depth, Olly decided to steer the conversation towards football. "The thing about me is, whenever I'm with people, the first thing I always ask is 'What team do you support?'" he explained.
This led to Prince William opening up about his passion for Aston Villa. "He was telling me all about how much he loves going and how he's excited about the new owners and the season," Olly revealed.
Olly, a die-hard Manchester United supporter, revealed that their conversation lasted for "a good 10 minutes," reports the Express.
As they chatted, it became apparent that a line of people was forming, all eager to speak with the future King. He added: "I looked around me at one point and there were about 30 or 40 people all wanting to talk to him, but we were having such good chat about football.
"I said, 'look, William, it's lovely to talk to you, mate. Have a good night. I've got to go'. I sort of had to creep away."
While this isn't the typical way to end a conversation with a high-ranking royal, Olly felt he had no other option under the circumstances.
