Coronation Street actress Jane Danson has hinted at a possible crossover episode with Emmerdale.

In an upcoming Christmas special of Lorraine Kelly's ITV show, Jane is questioned by the host about the potential for a collaborative storyline between the two popular ITV soaps.

Lorraine asks her: "Has anybody ever thought of doing this, obviously there are these worlds, there's Coronation Street and there's Emmerdale, would you not love to do a merger? Do you not think it would be really good?"

In the meantime, both soaps have exciting storylines lined up for the festive season. Emmerdale will feature the long-awaited reunion of Piper and Belle, while Marlon and April face challenges when he discovers her attempts to purchase cannabis. Meanwhile, Kim's disappearance causes concern when her horse is found without her, and Will continues to plot against her.

Over in Coronation Street, Toyah finds herself in trouble with the law, and Gail and Jesse prepare to bid farewell to the Cobbles, but not before tensions come to a head. Will Gail ultimately get the happy ending she desires?

Jane hinted at the possibility of a crossover romance, sharing with the ITV presenter: "I've always said, soap and television are changing so who knows what would happen, but I've always quite liked the idea of Cain Dingle coming over to have a pint in the Rovers and Leanne could have a little date with him, she needs a bad boy I think."

Indeed, this wouldn't be a first for soap crossovers. Just this year, an Easter egg appeared on Emmerdale showing someone in the background reading Chit Chat magazine - a publication typically mentioned on Coronation Street.

Furthermore, in 2021, seven popular soaps including Coronation Street and Emmerdale collaborated to highlight environmental issues. The special episodes mentioned each other, creating a unique televisual event not repeated since.

In another instance back in 2010, a special episode aired for Children In Need featuring both EastEnders and Coronation Street, which helped raise funds for the well-known charity.
