After watching the gripping live episode of EastEnders on Thursday night, fans collectively expressed their awe at Lacey Turner's stellar performance.

The BBC One soap was celebrating its 40th anniversary with a dramatic instalment that lived up to expectation, filled with twists and shock revelations.

Recent episodes had wrapped up the intriguing "who dunnit" plot featuring Cindy Beale (played by Michelle Collins), with Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) exposed as Cindy's assailant.

For the landmark celebration, EastEnders writers orchestrated an explosive storyline, bringing killer Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman) back to wreak havoc on Albert Square. In a frantic escape attempt, he crashed into the Queen Vic pub, igniting gas canisters and causing the iconic building to burst into flames and ultimately collapse.

It was a particular scene from Thursday's broadcast though, that left audiences astounded. Martin Fowler (James Bye) put his life on the line to save his former partner Stacey Slater (played by Lacey Turner) amidst the chaos of the disintegrating pub.

Their escape became complicated when Stacey halted, adamant that they confess their true feelings before fleeing the devastation. Just as she secured the door shut, tragedy struck: a massive beam plummeted from above, crushing Martin's legs, reports the Mirror.

Amidst the tension of the live show, the couple confronted their emotions, culminating in Martin's heartfelt marriage proposal.

The plot twist was a cruel one for Stacey, as paramedics informed her that lifting the beam to release Martin would lead to his death due to crush syndrome—a condition leading to kidney failure and cardiac arrest. Stacey's reaction was devastating; her harrowing scream echoed throughout Walford.

Lacey who plays Stacey, has been showered with praise from fans of the show, especially considering she's currently on maternity leave after welcoming her third child just weeks ago. Supporters took to the social platform X, previously known as Twitter, to express their admiration.

One fan enthused: "Lacey Turner everyone. She's just given birth and came back from maternity to act her heart out LIVE."

EastEnders updates

Another expressed amazement: "So you're telling me Lacey Turner filmed a stunt heavily pregnant, gave birth, came back a few weeks later and carried a live episode? Where's this woman's pride of Britain award? Get her a knighthood pronto!"

"Lacey Turner is the definition of 'master of your craft'. Central in two live eps, despite one being when she was ill and one being a month after she'd given birth!! Her talent is off the charts - definitely one of the best actors soap has ever had! What a woman," declared another admirer.

In the meantime, another admirer expressed: "I have nothing but pure admiration for Lacey Turner. Coming back to EastEnders a few weeks after giving birth to deliver the performance of her life was incredible. Reaching every fibre of her emotion during a LIVE episode isn't easy. Lacey Turner take a bow."

Another fan chimed in with: "Lacey Turner really turned up tonight just weeks after giving birth and acted her heart out in so many long scenes before that piercing scream at the end. We are not worthy,".
