Body Horror Movie ‘Together’ Starring Alison Brie & Dave Franco Finds Home at NEON
by John Squires · Bloody DisgustingFresh off its premiere at Sundance, the horror movie Together has been acquired by distributor NEON in a massive deal estimated to be somewhere in the ballpark of $10 million. It’s the first major deal out of Sundance this year, and Variety was the first to report the news.
NEON will release Together in theaters everywhere on August 1, 2025.
Real-life spouses Alison Brie and Dave Franco star in Together, which comes from first-time writer/director Michael Shanks. The film “puts a meta spin on the body horror film,” and “follows a codependent couple that moves to the remote countryside to become even closer. And they do, on a nightmarish physical level, thanks to a supernatural force.”
Variety details the Sundance bidding war, “A24 was also in the running at other point, with other studios, including Mubi, kicking the tires. It’s not clear what the final price tag is, but sources said the bidding was well over $10 million at one point in recent days. One source even put it at $15 million, which would make it one of the biggest deals in Sundance history.”
Meagan Navarro reviewed Together for Bloody Disgusting out of Sundance.
“Alison Brie and Dave Franco star as a stagnating couple who find themselves dealing with codependency issues of the Lovecraftian kind,” Meagan details. “Its unique blend of awkward romantic dramedy and cosmic body horror yields no shortage of crowd-pleasing moments and horror freakouts that left the rowdy Sundance audience laughing and screaming in equal measure. Shanks’s debut keeps the horror simple and unsubtle as it ramps up the insanity.”
Meagan’s review continues, “Framing a romantic dramedy, complete with cringe humor and a Spice Girls needle drop, through a Lovecraftian body horror lens yields more than enough fun to forgive its underserved elements. It’s the type of zany crowd-pleaser that delivers on its premise with an unhinged sense of humor and heart.”
NEON is on a massive hot streak after the $126 million box office success of Longlegs last year, with this year’s new offerings including the Osgood Perkins-directed Stephen King adaptation The Monkey (February 21) and Finn Wolfhard slasher Hell of a Summer (April 18).
Stay tuned for more on Together, including a release date from NEON.
