Sophie Turner in Talks to Play Lara Croft in ‘Tomb Raider’ Live Action Series
by John Squires · Bloody DisgustingLara Croft will return with a small screen “Tomb Raider” series over at Amazon Prime Video, and Deadline reports today that Sophie Turner (“Game of Thrones”) is now in talks to star.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”) is developing and writing the upcoming series, which has been described by Amazon as being both “epic” and “globe-trotting.”
Sophie Turner would star as video game icon Lara Croft, if the deal closes. Croft has of course been played on the screen by both Angelina Jolie and more recently Alicia Vikander.
“If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode. Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all,” Waller-Bridge said in a statement.
Waller-Bridge will executive produce alongside Ryan Andolina and Amanda Greenblatt.
It had been announced last year that Amazon will also be developing a Tomb Raider movie and video game, with the series, game, and movie intended to be set in the same universe.
