Michael Crichton’s Westworld has made its way onto the screen a handful of times over the years, beginning with the original 1973 movie directed by Crichton. More recently, HBO’s “Westworld” television series ran for four seasons before being cancelled back in 2022.

Deadline now reports this afternoon that a brand new Westworld movie is taking shape at Warner Bros., with David Koepp (Jurassic Park, Disclosure Day) writing the screenplay.

Deadline notes, “Koepp is writing the script and a major filmmaker is circling.”

Michael Crichton both wrote and directed the original 1973 movie, centered on a robot malfunction that creates havoc for vacationers at a futuristic, adult-themed amusement park.

Yul Brynner, Richard Benjamin and James Brolin starred in the original movie.

A dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the birth of a new form of life on Earth, HBO’s recent series was created for television by Jonathan Nolan & Lisa Joy.

The sci-fi series starred Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson, Luke Hemsworth, Angela Sarafyan, Aaron Paul, and Ariana Debose.

David Koepp is of course no stranger to the world of Michael Crichton. Koepp scripted the original Jurassic Park for Steven Spielberg, based on Crichton’s other theme park novel.

Koepp later wrote The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic World Rebirth. He re-teams with Steven Spielberg for this year’s science fiction summer blockbuster Disclosure Day.
