by Alex DiVincenzo · Bloody DisgustingNetflix has unveiled the first poster for “Stranger Things: Tales from ’85,” which will be followed by a teaser trailer tomorrow.
A release date has not yet been set, but the animated spinoff will premiere later this year on the streamer.
Set in the winter of 1985 — between the events of “Stranger Things” Seasons 2 and 3 — the Hawkins crew must fight new monsters and unravel a paranormal mystery terrorizing their town.
Eric Robles (“Fanboy & Chum Chum”) serves as showrunner, with Flying Bark Productions (“What If…?,” “Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”) as the animation studio.
It stars Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max, Luca Diaz as Mike, Elisha “EJ” Williams as Lucas, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, Ben Plessala as Will, and Brett Gipson as Hopper.
Additional voice actors include Odessa A’zion, Janeane Garofalo, and Lou Diamond Phillips.
“Stranger Things” creators Matt & Ross Duffer executive produce with Hilary Leavitt on behalf of Upside Down Pictures, alongside Shawn Levy via 21 Laps, Dan Cohen, and Robles.
“When we started talking about, was there anything else we wanted to do with ‘Stranger Things,’ this was one of our first ideas,” said Ross Duffer.
“The idea was kind of to evoke a feeling of an ’80s cartoon,” added Matt Duffer.
