Maya Hawke Will Investigate ‘The God of the Woods’ in Netflix Thriller Series
by Alex DiVincenzo · Bloody Disgusting“Stranger Things” breakout Maya Hawke has been tapped to star in “The God of the Woods,” Netflix’s series adaptation of Liz Moore‘s 2024 bestselling thriller novel.
A multi-generational drama series set in the Adirondacks, the show explores the Van Laar family’s dark secrets, class tensions, and the mysteries surrounding the disappearance of 13-year-old Barbara Van Laar from her family’s summer camp — in the wake of an earlier family tragedy that may be related.
As the past and present collide, the Van Laars’ wealth and influence unravel, revealing the damaging consequences of privilege and the abuse of power.
Hawke will play Judy Luptack, the first female investigator in the male-dominated Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Smart and quietly determined, Judy is assigned to unravel the disappearance of a young girl in upstate New York.
Moore and Liz Hannah (The Post, “Mindhunter”) serve as co-showrunners in addition to executive producing with Neal H. Moritz & Pavun Shetty for Original Film (“The Boys,” I Know What You Did Last Summer).
