· Yahoo NewsFollowing a weekend of heavy winds, Western North Carolina is headed into a wintry weather week.
In the Asheville area, the lowest temperature prediction for the week is a chilly 12 degrees on Thursday night, Jan 15. With precipitation expected across Western North Carolina due to a northwest flow snow event, the cold temperatures could cause hazards on roads. Dangerous wind chill is also a possibility, according to reports from the National Weather Service.

A hazardous weather outlook from the weather service was issued for Avery, Madison, Yancey, Mitchell, Swain, Haywood, Buncombe, Graham and Northern Jackson counties at 8:56 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 12.

The outlook warns of inclement weather from Tuesday, Jan. 13, through Sunday, Jan. 18, caused by a northwest flow snow event. The federal weather agency stated that the event appears "increasingly likely" to impact the North Carolina mountains, particularly from the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 14, through Thursday, Jan 15.
Snow accumulations will be heaviest above 3,500 feet near the Tennessee border, the National Weather Service predicts. Gusty winds and dangerous wind chills will be possible Thursday night, Jan. 15, into Friday morning, Jan. 16, in the northern mountains.
In Asheville, forecasts show that rain and snow are likely on Wednesday night, Jan. 14, between midnight- 3 a.m. A chance of snow remains after 3 a.m., and nighttime low temperatures are predicted at around 23 degrees, cold enough for snow to accumulate. On Thursday, Jan. 15, a 30% chance of snow remains before 9 a.m., with a daytime high temperature of roughly 29 degrees.
