There were a lot of expectations after Payal Kapadia's 'All We Imagine As Light' made it to the BAFTA nominations. At the EE BAFTA Film Awards, 'All We Imagine As Light' scored a single nomination in the Best Film Not in the English Language category. The nominations came in after actor Mia McKenna-Bruce and Will Sharpe made the announcement on Wednesday.
All We Imagine As Light's BAFTA nomination
Payal has missed the Best Director nomination and the Best Original Screenplay category at the BAFTAs. 'All We Imagine As Light' was shortlisted in the three categories at the BAFTA, including Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Film Not in the English Language. It only scored one nomination.
It only got one nomination. The other nominees in the category are: 'Emilia Perez', 'I'm Still Here', 'The Seed of the Sacred Fig', and 'Kneecap'. Earlier, Payal Kapadia was nominated in the Best Director category at the Golden Globe Awards. She lost the award to Brady Corbet for 'The Brutalist'. 'All We Imagine As Light' was also nominated in the Best Film Not in the English Language Category, but lost to 'Emilia Perez'.
Payal Kapadia's critically-acclaimed film 'All We Imagine As Light' was nominated in the Best Film Not in the English language category whereas Sandhya Suri's 'Santosh' and Karan Kandhari's Sister Midnight' were also nominated in the category of outstanding debut by a British writer, director and producer category.
Directed by Payal Kapadia, 'All We Imagine As Light' is an ode to Mumbai and stars Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam, and Hridhu Haroon. The film began an awards run after it won the Grand Prix award at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2024.
The film is available to stream on Disney+Hotstar in India where it premiered on January 3, 2025. Meanwhile, the BAFTA Film awards will be streaming LIVE and exclusively in India on Lionsgate Play on February 16, 2025.
