Paddy Pimblett was “heartbroken” when his “big sister” retired at UFC London.

But just because Molly McCann is done with mixed martial arts (MMA) doesn’t mean she’s walking away from combat sports. In fact, “Meatball” just signed with Eddie Hearn at Matchroom Boxing and is expected to make her “sweet science” return later this year.

“Molly McCann will compete now as a boxer,” Hearn said. “About time, I’d like to say, as well, former ABA champion. Everybody knows her ability as a boxer. Obviously she’s been a massive star within the UFC, built her profile globally, as well, and we’re delighted to start the journey with her, delighted she’s chosen to sign with Matchroom. Great person, great fighter. The boxing journey is about to begin.”

McCann, who boxed on the amateur circuit prior to her MMA career, compiled a 14-8 record in cage fighting, posting an even 7-7 mark inside the Octagon. Despite a hot start with UFC, the 35 year-old “Meatball” dropped four of her last five, getting submitted in three of those four losses.

A date and location for her pro boxing debut has yet to be determined.
