Luigi Mangione Has Been Listening To Taylor Swift And Charli XCX In Jail

We now have evidence that Luigi Mangione may have had himself a Brat summer. Back in May the internet’s favorite alleged murderer turned 27 years old in jail, where he’s still facing second-degree murder charges following the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson last December. Apparently, Mangione celebrated his birthday with a list of 27 things he’s grateful for. At the bottom of that list are a couple of honorable mentions: Taylor Swift and Charli XCX.

This week, a photo of Mangione’s “27 Things I’m Grateful For” list has been making the rounds online — not the first time his writing has gone viral! — and it looks legitimate. It’s pretty endearing: He’s thankful for his friends and family, people who’ve donated to his legal defense fund and sent him letters, independent media (wait until he finds out about Stereogum), and his kind cellmate. Last but not least, at #27, he added: “‘cardigan’ by Taylor Swift.” He later scratched that out to instead write: “‘Dis Ain’t What U Want’ by Lil Durk.” At the bottom of the page, Mangione explains:

Last week, I downloaded a bunch of Taylor Swift and Charli XCX onto my tablet. I’ve never really listened to either of them, but some phony list of my favorite music circulated on social media… Rather than be a buzzkill and set the record straight, I figured I’d see what all the hype was about. So I’m walking laps on the top tier of my unit listening to “cardigan” by TSwift, when one of the other inmates, “King,” calls me over to see what I’m listening to. He scolds me for awhile, then replaces all my music. Now I listen to “Lil Durk.”
