Ted Lasso is officially making its return to the pitch. After wrapping up its third season in 2023, the hit soccer comedy series will be back for a fourth season on Apple TV+. Here’s everything we know about Season 4 so far, from the returning cast to the plot.

On March 14, Apple TV+ confirmed that Ted Lasso will return for a fourth season. Jason Sudeikis, who co-created the show with Brendan Hunt, Joe Kelly, and Bill Lawrence, will reprise his role and serve as an executive producer in the upcoming installment.

“We all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to ‘look before we leap,” Sudeikis said in a statement. “In Season 4, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to leap before they look, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.”

‘Ted Lasso’ has been nothing short of a juggernaut, inspiring a passionate fanbase all over the world, and delivering endless joy and laughter, all while spreading kindness, compassion and unwavering belief,” added Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+. “Everyone at Apple is thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Jason and the brilliant creative minds behind this show.”

Few details have been revealed about Ted Lasso Season 4. However, Sudeikis shared on the New Heights podcast with Travis and Jason Kelce on March 14 that in Season 4, Ted will be coaching a women’s team. “It’s daunting, because we told the story we wanted to tell,” he said. “But there’s more there.”

Which Cast Will Be Returning For Ted Lasso Season 4?

It’s currently unclear which original cast members, aside from Sudeikis, will return for Season 4. In August, Warner Bros. Television reportedly secured options for three original cast members: Hannah Waddingham, who plays AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Walton; Brett Goldstein, who portrays footballer Roy Kent; and Jeremy Swift, who stars as Director of Football Operations Leslie Higgins.

Unfortunately, one fan-favorite character might not be present in Season 4. Last August, Deadline and Puck News’ reported that Phil Dunster, who portrayed AFC Richmond footballer Jamie Tartt, has not been picked up by the series, likely due to scheduling conflicts. Dunster currently stars in two series, Prime Video’s The Devil’s Hour and Apple’s Surface.

The good news is that many of the show’s cast members have expressed their willingness to return for the new season. Apple TV+ has confirmed that most of the original creative team, including the majority of the show’s writers, will also be back for Season 4. Jack Burditt, known for Netflix’s hit Nobody Wants This, will join the team as an executive producer.

Apple TV+ has yet to announce a release date for Season 4, though it’s expected that the next season won’t premiere until 2026 or 2027.

Ted Lasso ran for three seasons from August 2020 to March 2023. In March 2023, Sudeikis told Deadline that the original plan for the series was to conclude after three seasons “This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell,” he said at the time. The show won 13 Emmys, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Lead Actor for Sudeikis.
