‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ End Credits Scene: Why You Should Stick Around

I Know What You Did Last Summer, the reboot of the 1997 slasher hit starring Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt, has an end-credits scene that fans will not want to miss.

Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, I Know What You Did Last Summer opened in theaters on Friday. The official summary for the movie reads, "When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences.

“A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer … and is hell-bent on revenge. As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.”

Prinze and Hewitt are back in their original roles of Ray Bronson and Julia James from the 1997 version of I Know What You Did Last Summer.

The film also stars Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers and Sarah Pidgeon as the group of friends who are haunted by their collective decision not to report the deadly car crash to the authorities.

What Happens During The End Credits Of ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’?

End-credits or post-credits scenes generally tie up loose ends or set up a prospective sequel, provided that the film at hand makes enough money at the box office to justify the sequel.

In the case of I Know What You Did Last Summer, the end credits scene happens at the midway point, where Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Julie James, who despite surviving another killing spree in Southport, finds out that a killer is still on the loose. The exact nature of the latest massacre and who is behind it will not be revealed for spoiler purposes.

As such, Julie locates her old college roommate, Karla Wilson (Brady Norwood) from the 1998 sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, to warn her that both of them are in danger. Julie hands Karla a photo of the two of them with a red X crossed over Karla’s face, along with a note that reads, “It isn’t over.”

Having survived the wrath of the killer along with Julie in I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, Karla boldly proclaims to her old roommate, “Who are we f---ing up this time?” to which Julie replies, “I was really hoping you were going to say that.”

I Know What You Did Last Summer doesn’t have a post-credits scene, but it really doesn’t need one. The mid-end credits scene clearly establishes that the door is open for a sequel to the new version of I Know What You Did Last Summer.

If it comes to pass, will it take a cue from the reboot movie and be named I Still Know What You Did Last Summer? Only time will tell.
