The YouTube app's Cast button has vanished for some users

by · Android Police

The ability to cast content onto a larger screen has existed for a long time and is supported by practically every major video player app, including YouTube. However, it looks like this crucial function has gone missing for some users over the last few days, prompting multiple Reddit threads from impacted users.

Could this be related to ad blockers?

One user over the weekend detailed the issue at length, saying the prominent Cast button in the video player just disappeared. Even measures like force-stopping the app, restarting the phone, rechecking the permissions, and disabling/enabling Wi-Fi didn't bear fruit, per the user (via PiunikaWeb).

Another said the Cast button is missing from the YouTube app's home page, while one user claimed that uninstalling and reinstalling the app briefly restored the icon, only to disappear again later.

Some remedies are floating around

Separately, an individual found luck by disabling auto-update and uninstalling the latest update. This suggests the issue may have been triggered by a recent app update, though we cannot confirm this at the moment. The issue is clearly not isolated, as illustrated by some of the comments.

The Cast button appears to be missing only from the YouTube app and continues to appear and function perfectly on other Android apps. Some say it's visible in the video player, but missing from the app's home page. Thankfully for the YouTube team, this glitch doesn't appear to affect iOS and iPadOS versions of YouTube, based on a quick check I conducted.

Upon checking the YouTube app on my Pixel phone, the button remains visible on the home page, the Subscriptions page, and the video player itself. With this in mind, this particular glitch could be limited to certain regions of the world, though it is hard to determine until we hear from YouTube.

Whatever the issue is, affected users will hope it's remedied soon, as the Cast button lets them instantly view content from the YouTube app on their television or monitor. Bugs are unfortunately not new to YouTube, as we've seen multiple issues pop up over the past few weeks, though this one has the potential to be more annoying than others.
