THE BATMAN: PART II Halts Production as Matt Reeves Steps Away for Personal Reasons

Production on The Batman: Part IIhas hit the pause button, with director Matt Reevestemporarily stepping away from the highly anticipated DC sequel to focus on a family matter.

Warner Bros. and DC Studios confirmed the news Monday, explaining that the production shutdown is temporary and that Reeves has the studio’s full support.

“Production on The Batman: Part II has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter,” the studio said. “Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.”

Filming on The Batman: Part II had already been underway in London before production was halted. The movie is currently scheduled to hit theaters on February 18, 2028.

For now, that release date remains in place. Sources say it’s simply too early to know whether the production pause will cause another change to the sequel’s theatrical debut.

Robert Pattinson is returning as Batman, with Andy Serkis back as Alfred and Colin Farrell once again playing Penguin.

The sequel is also bringing several new faces into Reeves’ Gotham, including Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Brian Tyree Henry, Jayme Lawson, Charles Dance, Gil Perez-Abraham, and Sebastian Koch.

After the long wait to get The Batman: Part II in front of cameras, fans will obviously be eager to see production resume. For the moment, though, Reeves is taking the time he needs with his family, and DC Studios appears ready to give him that time.

Hopefully everything works out for Reeves and his family with whatever they are going through.
