Amazon’s Scrapped JAMES BOND TV Shows Reportedly Revealed
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantBefore Amazon MGM Studios took full creative control of the James Bond franchise, the company made several attempts to get Bond-related TV projects off the ground only to be repeatedly shut down by longtime franchise stewards Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon pitched multiple spinoff series, including shows centered on Miss Moneypenny, CIA agent Felix Leiter, and even a “female 007.”
But Broccoli and Wilson weren’t interested. Their stance on Bond was clear… Bond belonged on the big screen, and they had the final say on any expansion of the franchise.
Amazon was so determined to get a Bond series made that executives reportedly hoped MGM’s Courtenay Valenti, who is nicknamed “the Barbara whisperer,” could convince Broccoli to change her mind. That, of course, didn’t really work out.
This resistance played a major role in Amazon’s increasingly strained relationship with the Bond producers. At one point, Broccoli was reportedly put off when Amazon Studios chief Jennifer Salke referred to Bond as just another piece of “content.” Meanwhile, Wilson had difficulty even securing meetings with Amazon’s top executives.
Despite these tensions, a joint venture between Amazon, MGM, and the Bond producers was made and announced. Under this deal, Broccoli and Wilson retain an ownership stake in the franchise, but for the first time in decades, they no longer have creative control.
That power now rests solely with Amazon, which is a crazy shift that took everyone by surprise. One of the funniest part of the Oscars Ceremony was that James Bond tribute. It was hilarious to me because it felt like a farewell to Bond, like the franchise had died once Amazon took over.
Amazon is looking to keep future projects tied to a single, cohesive Bond universe. If the next Bond film introduces a new Felix Leiter, for instance, that could pave the way for a Leiter-focused series. Likewise, if the new Moneypenny or Q captures audience interest, those characters could be spun off into their own adventures.
Of course, expanding Bond into television comes with risks. Fans have already expressed concerns about overexposure and dilution of the franchise’s identity. But if done right, these projects could deepen the world of Bond rather than weaken it.
For now, though, the priority has to be Bond 26. The future of the franchise hinges on getting the next film right. But once that foundation is set, don’t be surprised if Prime Video will deliver a whole new era of Bond storytelling.
