The Old Republic Returns in Awesome Teaser Trailer For STAR WARS: FATE OF THE OLD REPUBLIC

The Game Awards 2025 kicked off with a surprise that instantly set the fandom on fire. Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, a brand new single player action RPG from Casey Hudson, was revealed with a moody teaser that taps directly into the nostalgia of Knights of the Old Republic while charting its own course.

For fans who grew up roaming the galaxy in the original RPG classic, this reveal feels like the start of something genuinely exciting.

In the teaser, a small team of adventurers touches down on a mysterious world before the camera follows them into the shadowy interior of an Interdictor class cruiser.

Longtime players will recognize that ship design from KOTOR, a detail that hits instantly for anyone who remembers the style and tone of those early adventures. The figure leading the squad eventually steps forward and ignites a blue lightsaber, setting the stage for a confrontation with an unseen enemy.

The three character party composition even mirrors the structure of the original game, and one of the companions appears to be a combat droid that sure feels like a nod to a certain beloved HK unit.

Hudson is leading development at Arcanaut Studios, the new team he founded earlier this year, and the project is currently described as being in early development for PC and consoles.

While its visual language echoes KOTOR, Lucasfilm and the creative leads are making it clear that this isn’t a retread of earlier stories. StarWars.com notes that Fate of the Old Republic is “not a direct sequel or continuation” of the BioWare classic, though the shared DNA is impossible to miss.

What makes this especially cool is the use of the Old Republic era itself, a period that modern canon has barely touched.

Lucasfilm Games VP and GM Douglas Reilly underscored the opportunity in this setting, saying, "The Old Republic era is a rich and beloved part of the Star Wars galaxy, and we are thrilled to be exploring a fresh story that we’ve never seen before in Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic."

Hudson reflected on returning to this part of the Star Wars universe, sharing, "Working on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was one of the defining experiences of my career. With Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, we’re telling a completely new and different story with everything we’ve learned since crafting an adventure about choice, destiny, and the timeless struggle between light and dark. It’s a dream come true to once again collaborate with Lucasfilm Games."

The teaser doesn’t give much away, but the mood, the era, and the pedigree behind it are strong enough to get fans hyped for what Arcanaut Studios is building.

More details are expected as development continues, but for now, this first look is a pretty awesome invitation back into one of the most beloved corners of the Star Wars galaxy.
