Sony Pictures CEO Actually Thinks MADAME WEB and KRAVEN Are Good Films and Blames Critics for Their Failures
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantThe departing CEO of Sony Pictures, Tony Vinciquerra, actually thinks that Madame Web and Kraven The Hunter are good films, and it make me wonder why these people, who don’t know what good movies are, continue to run Hollywood.
During a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times looking back at his seven years leading Sony Pictures, Vinciquerra spoke about the studio’s successes an disappointments, which includes the final Spider-Man universe Marvel film to launch under his watch, Kraven the Hunter.
I thought Kraven the Hunter was an all-around awful film and when talking about it, he said that it was “probably the worst launch we had in the 7 1/2 years [I’ve been at Sony], so that didn’t work out very well, which I still don’t understand, because the film is not a bad film.”
I don’t understand how he doesn’t understand why the movie didn’t do well! I mean, he watched the movie, right? How can you not watch that movie and not see how poorly written and directed it is?
Well, he also thinks Madame Web was a good movie! He said: “Let’s just touch on Madame Web for a moment. Madame Web underperformed in the theaters because the press just crucified it. It was not a bad film, and it did great on Netflix.”
It was a bad film, this guy obviously just doesn’t know what a good movie is. It drives me nuts that these are the kind of people running Hollywood, they can’t or won’t see all of the bad decisions they made, and they can’t make better movie if they can’t admit to themselves that they made a bad movie.
Instead, they blame critics for their film’s failures. Vinciquerra said: “For some reason, the press decided that they didn’t want us making these films out of Kraven and Madame Web, and the critics just destroyed them.
“They also did it with Venom, but the audience loved Venom and made Venom a massive hit. These are not terrible films. They were just destroyed by the critics in the press, for some reason.”
They are bad films, and that’s why they bombed at the box office! The only reason whey the Venom films worked is because those weren’t as bad as Madame Web, Kraven the Hunter, and Morbius, which he didn’t mention.
Vinciquerra and the rest of the studios executives in Hollywood who think their bad films are actually really good, need to be honest with themselves. Once they do that, that can take the steps they need to take to make actual good movies.
