Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista Go Full Chaos in Trailer for the Action Comedy THE WRECKING CREW

by · GeekTyrant

Jason Momoa and Dave Bautistaare teaming up for a loud, chaotic, and unapologetically ridiculous action comedy, and the first trailer for The Wrecking Crew has been released.

The film is coming from Amazon Prime Video, and it’s skipping theaters entirely and heading straight to streaming later this month. That kind of release choice doesn’t exactly scream confidence, but with Momoa and Bautista at the center of the chaos, it’s still hard not to be curious, and it looks fun!

Set against the streets and beaches of Hawaii, the film casts Momoa and Bautista as estranged half-brothers Jonny and James. The two are forced back into each other’s orbit after their father’s mysterious death.

What starts as an uncomfortable reunion quickly spirals into something much bigger, with long-buried family secrets surfacing and a full-blown conspiracy threatening to tear them apart. Naturally, the brothers respond the only way they know how, by smashing through everything standing in their way.

The official synopsis leans fully into that energy: "They fight like brothers. They wreck like legends. In this fun action comedy, two estranged half-brothers, Jonny (Jason Momoa) & James (Dave Bautista) are forced to reunite after their father's mysterious death.

“As they set out to uncover the truth, buried secrets resurface and their loyalties are tested, unveiling a conspiracy that can tear their family apart. Together, they're ready to WRECK anything that gets in their way. “

The trailer sells the contrast between its leads hard. Momoa’s laid-back, brawling charm clashes with Bautista’s more stoic, blunt-force presence, and their back-and-forth looks like the movie’s strongest asset.

Watching these two go at each other verbally and physically is clearly the main draw. The action itself, though, looks fairly standard. Big punches, big guns, big explosions, and not much that feels especially new. It all plays like familiar action comedy territory, even if the setting gives it a nice visual change of pace.

Behind the project is director Ángel Manuel Soto, who previously helmed Blue Beetle along with Charm City Kings and The Farm. The script comes from Jonathan Tropper, whose credits include This Is Where I Leave You, The Adam Project, and series like Banshee, Warrior, and See.

The supporting cast includes Claes Bang, Jacob Batalon, Stephen Root, Lydia Peckham, Roimata Fox, and Morena Baccarin.

The Wrecking Crew looks like it’s leaning heavily on the chemistry of its two leads rather than bringing anything wildly original to the genre. That said, sometimes all an action comedy really needs is two charismatic bruisers wrecking stuff for 90 minutes. If Momoa and Bautista fully commit to the insanity, it could still end up being a solid crowd-pleaser.

The Wrecking Crew hits Prime Video on January 28, 2026.
