WONDER MAN Season 2 Faces Long Wait as Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Talks Possible Story Direction
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantMarvel fans hoping to jump right back into Wonder Man Season 2 might need to settle in for a bit of a wait. The series is officially coming back, but according to star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, it isn’t arriving anytime soon.
The upside? The ideas being tossed around for the next chapter sound like they could take the show into some pretty fascinating territory.
During a conversation on Happy, Sad, Confused with Josh Horowitz, Abdul-Mateen II opened up about where things currently stand. While Marvel Television renewed the show recently, the creative wheels for Season 2 haven’t really started turning yet.
He explained that both he and co-creator Destin Daniel Crettonare tied up with other major projects. Abdul-Mateen II is juggling upcoming titles like Man on Fire and The Adventures of Cliff Booth, while Cretton is deep into work on Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
Still, fans shouldn’t worry about momentum disappearing completely. Abdul-Mateen II said the core team plans to come back together and continue Simon Williams’ story.
He also hinted that while he trusts the creative direction, he’s got a few thoughts of his own waiting in the wings. He just isn’t ready to throw them into the mix until he sees what the writers cook up first.
When pressed for more, the actor also dropped some insight into what he’d personally like to explore next.
Season 1 followed Simon’s climb toward becoming a Hollywood star, but Abdul-Mateen II pointed out that the story barely scratched the surface of what happens after that dream becomes reality. He said:
“We haven’t really seen that,” the actor added. “The first thing he does is he says, ‘Okay, I’m gonna go get my break, and use this to sort of break my friend out.'”
That opens up a whole new phase of the character’s journey, one that leans less on ambition and more on consequences.
And then he pushed it even further, saying: “What is he going to become? Have we created a monster?” he speculated. “I’m like, ‘Yeah, I think so a little bit.'”
That’s where things get really interesting. The idea of Simon gaining influence in Hollywood, possibly reshaping scripts and steering productions, hints at a darker evolution. Fame, power, and control aren’t exactly known for making things simple, and it sounds like Season 2 could lean into that tension in a big way.
Abdul-Mateen II wrapped it up by saying that imagining Simon navigating that kind of rise and the complications that come with it was “interesting” to him.
Even with the long wait ahead, this direction could give Wonder Man a sharper edge. If the series digs into the cost of success and how power reshapes identity, Season 2 might end up being a very different beast from what fans saw the first time around.
Now it’s just a matter of how long we’ll have to wait to see it unfold.
