Showtime has released a new trailer for the Dexter prequel series Dexter: Original Sin. It offers our best look yet at what is in store for this the series as Dexter learns and embraces his code of killing the bad guys who escape justice.

This looks like it’s going to be a great show, especially fans of the Dexter franchise. It’s going to be fun to watch how this Dexter origin story plays out!

Michael C. Hall narrates the series, which is set in 1991 Miami and follows Dexter (Patrick Gibson), “a student refining his killer skills with the help and support of his adoptive father Harry (Christian Slater).

“In his dad, he finds solace and understanding, especially as his bloodthirsty urges grow and can no longer be ignored. As his only confidant, Harry teaches Dexter a code that’s designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to die — all while avoiding getting caught by law enforcement.

“This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.”

Hall previously talked about the series saying: “To a certain degree, I have a sense of what is coming. I’ve spent so much time with this character and to go back to have those sort of imaginative blanks filled in this technicolor show … It’s amazing.”

Showrunner Clyde Phillips talked about the prequel saying: “Expect what you have seen before but better. To see these characters as their younger selves is just amazing and the storytelling, I promise you, will be surprising and astonishing and satisfying.”

Executive Producer Scott Reynoldsadded: “It’s a wide-open path. Being able to tell a story about a kid who thinks he’s worthless and a dad who says he’s not is a beautiful thing.”

The cast of the series also includes Patrick Dempsey, Molly Brown, James Martinez, Christina Milian, Alex Shimizu, Reno Wilson and special guest star Sarah Michelle Gellar. Hall will voice the inner monologue in Dexter’s head throughout the show.

The series is set to premiere on December 15th.
