by · GeekTyrant

A viral website has popped up online promoting Barbarian director Zach Cregger’s creepy new horror film Weapons, and it reveals some additional details on the chilling story that the film revolves around.

The film stars Julia Garner (Fantastic Four) as an elementary school teacher who shows up to class one morning only to discover that every single student is gone.

The site, Maybrook Missing, reveals the following:

“17 Local Children Leave Home Simultaneously at 2:17AM

“A chilling mystery has gripped the small town of Maybrook after 17 children voluntarily left their homes Wednesday morning. Authorities are baffled by the inexplicable disappearance, which has shaken the community to its core.

“Upon investigation, front door camera footage showed the children leaving their homes at 2:17am Wednesday morning without any signs of force. Since then, little information has surfaced, and the case continues to baffle investigators.

“In response, a school gathering was held, where growing unease among parents became clear. As the town struggles to understand what happened, officials continue to urge the public for any leads, while Maybrook is left waiting for answers.”

We saw a trailer for this film while at CinemaCon and you can check out our reaction video for it here. This movie looks pretty freakin’ crazy, and I’m excited to see it!

The rest of the cast includes Josh Brolin (Dune), Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange), and Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story).

New Line Cinema president Richard Brener hyped it up perfectly during the presentation, calling the film: “Intriguing and unpredictable, with a nice helping of batshit insane.”

Weapons hits theaters August 8th.
