KPOP DEMON HUNTERS Is Getting a Short Film Prequel Story
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantKPop Demon Hunters has taken the world by storm, and it looks like the demon-slaying idols are coming back for more. A new short film titled Debut: A KPop Demon Hunters Story has quietly surfaced, and it could give fans a fresh look at the world of Huntr/x.
According to a recent filing with the MPA Classification and Rating Administration, the short has been rated PG for “some action/violence and scary images.”
The distributor is listed as Sony Pictures Animation, the same studio behind the feature film. No official plot details have been shared yet, but the title Debut suggests that we could be looking at an origin story for Huntr/x.
With that PG rating, it’s safe to assume there will still be some demon-fighting thrown into the mix. Nothing is confirmed though, so the short could surprise us in completely different ways. Since it has already been rated, a release announcement might not be too far away.
This comes on the heels of KPop Demon Hunters becoming Netflix’s most popular release ever, with an incredible 314.2 million views and climbing. The film’s soundtrack continues to dominate music charts, and reports have hinted that Netflix is developing a full sequel, with talks of expanding the franchise into a trilogy, a live-action remake, and even a stage show.
The original movie followed Rumi, Zoey, and Mira, the members of Huntr/x, a girl group who use their music to fight demons while balancing the chaos of fame. Things escalate when a demonic boy band enters the scene and threatens to steal their fans, setting the stage for a colorful, action-packed battle of music and monsters.
With the short film now in the pipeline and a larger franchise seemingly on the way, fans won’t have to wait long to see Huntr/x back in action. Until then, KPop Demon Hunters is streaming now on Netflix.
