R.I.P. MYTHIC QUEST: Apple TV+ Cancels the Series, but Will Give It a Proper Farewell Update
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantWell, this one stings. Mythic Quest, the chaotic, heartfelt, and hilariously on-point workplace comedy about the team behind a hit video game, has officially been canceled by Apple TV+.
After four seasons of glory, it's game over. While the show won’t be returning for a fifth season, fans aren’t being left hanging entirely.
The team behind the series has revealed that Mythic Quest will receive an updated version of its Season 4 finale, a reworked ending that will give the characters and their story a proper sendoff.
In a joint statement, executive producers Megan Ganz, David Hornsby, andRob McElhenney shared:
“Endings are hard. But after four incredible seasons, Mythic Quest is coming to a close. We're so proud of the show and the world we got to build – and deeply grateful to every cast and crew member who poured their heart into it.
“To all our fans, thank you for playing with us. To our partners at Apple, thank you for believing in the vision from the very beginning. Because endings are hard, with Apple's blessing we made one final update to our last episode – so we could say goodbye, instead of just game over.”
The series, which debuted in 2020, was a quirky love letter to the video game industry and the messy human drama behind digital perfection. With an all-star cast that included McElhenney, Charlotte Nicdao, Ashly Burch, Jessie Ennis, David Hornsby, and Imani Hakim, Mythic Quest delivered witty writing, fun performances, and moments of surprising emotional depth.
Critics loved it. Fans loved it. Rotten Tomatoes shows a whopping 97% critics score, with an 82% from audiences. And now, with this final update to the finale, the show gets give us a true goodbye.
No word yet on when that updated finale will drop, but one thing’s for sure: we’ll be logging in to see how it all ends.
