LOKI Writer Michael Waldron Reveals the Iconic X-MEN Location Marvel Wouldn’t Let Him Include in the Void

When LokiSeason 1 took us into The Void, a surreal wasteland at the End of Time where the TVA dumps erased timelines, it was packed with wild Easter Eggs from across the Marvel Multiverse.

There was everything from a fallen Chitauri ship to Giant-Man’s skeletal remains, and even nods to Elektra and Blade. But as it turns out, there was one major Marvel reference that never made it in.

During a recent Reddit AMA, Loki Season 1 Head Writer Michael Waldron revealed that he originally planned to include an iconic location from X-Men lore inside The Void, but Marvel Studios wouldn’t allow it.

“There is a lot of creative freedom within the MCU. I think Loki is the weirdest thing in the world. I can't think of many times I was told no. Maybe when I originally wrote a deleted version of the Mojoverse into the Void.”

Waldron wanted to drop the Mojoverse into the mix. For those unfamiliar, the Mojoverse is an extradimensional realm ruled by the grotesque and media-obsessed villain Mojo.

It’s home to the X-Man Longshot and a bizarre race known as the Spineless Ones, who became addicted to entertainment after being exposed to Earth’s radio and TV signals.

Their warped love of spectacle and fear of humanity made Mojo one of the strangest, most satirical villains in X-Men history. Fans most recently saw him in X-Men ‘97, which brought back his twisted brand of televised chaos.

Why did Marvel put the brakes on it? Waldron didn’t say, but it likely had to do with rights issues or uncertainty about how the X-Men fit into the MCU at the time. Since Disney’s acquisition of Fox, the mutants have slowly started to creep into the larger Marvel story, but back when Loki Season 1 was written, those lines were still being drawn.

Waldron eventually stepped away from Loki Season 2 to focus on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but his work with the God of Mischief clearly left a lasting mark. In Loki’s Season 2 finale, likely the series’ conclusion, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki ascended to his new role at the End of Time, ensuring the survival of the Multiverse itself.

Loki and the TVA are going to play a key role in Avengers: Doomsday, which Waldron is also writing. The film is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
