STAR WARS Fans Are Re-Evaluating Obi-Wan Kenobi After MAUL – SHADOW LORD Finale

by · GeekTyrant

The finale of Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord was pretty incredible, and while the spotlight was on a long-awaited clash between Darth Vader and Maul, it’s Obi-Wan Kenobi who’s stealing the conversation afterward.

Some fans are walking away from Episode 10 with a fresh appreciation for the Jedi Master, and honestly, it’s about time.

The episode finally delivers the showdown fans have been waiting for. Darth Vader and Darth Maul collide in a brutal fight, though Maul never fully realizes he’s facing Anakin Skywalker beneath the mask.

Even without that knowledge, Maul understands the situation isn’t in his favor. Instead of trying to win, he brings the structure crashing down on Vader and escapes with Devon.

That retreat says a lot. Vader isn’t someone you just overpower and walk away from. And that’s exactly why fans are circling back to Obi-Wan. He’s one of the very few who’s gone toe-to-toe with Vader and lived to tell the story. More than that, he actually defeated him.

One fan summed it up on Reddit: "After watching Episode 10 of Maul: Shadow Lord, it really hit me just how powerful this man truly is."

Another fan pointed out, "Obi-Wan was the second to last Jedi Master. His knight trial was literally facing a Sith Lord alone."

And someone else added, "He's also the best defensive duelist in the order, possibly even of all time," referencing his battle with General Grievous, "Obi-Wan had him figuratively and literally disarmed and on the run in mere minutes."

It’s easy to forget just how skilled Kenobi is because his style isn’t flashy. He’s patient, controlled, and incredibly precise. That defensive mastery is exactly what allowed him to survive encounters others couldn’t.

Of course, his connection to Vader makes things even more interesting. Obi-Wan trained Anakin, shaping him into one of the most powerful Jedi before Palpatine pulled him to the dark side.

Their history adds a layer to every duel they share, especially their clash in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, where Kenobi ultimately overpowers Anakin and leaves him burned and broken on Mustafar.

Some fans argue that Obi-Wan’s victories come down to that familiarity. Others think that’s exactly what makes their fights so compelling.

As one fan explained, "They were so in sync with each other that a good chunk of their fights is them making moves the other knows and not knowing what move to make to throw them off guard."

While another added, "I will also defend the fight in A New Hope when both of them have developed so far, and are barely moving, because both are reading each others slightest micro movements"

That dynamic plays out across multiple encounters, from Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope to the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Each duel feels less like chaos and more like a chess match between two masters who know each other too well.

Vader’s story eventually ends in Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, when his damaged suit fails after he turns on Palpatine and throws him down a reactor shaft. But even in that final moment, the shadow of Obi-Wan’s influence is still there.

What Maul – Shadow Lord has done is remind fans that Obi-Wan wasn’t just a wise mentor or a calm presence in the chaos. He was one of the most formidable Jedi to ever live. Not loud, not flashy, but incredibly effective when it mattered most.

And now that fans are seeing Vader through Maul’s eyes, Kenobi’s legacy just got a serious upgrade.
