BLUE EYE SAMURAI Season 2 Gets a Release Date and New Teaser Trailer as Mizu's Revenge Continues

by · GeekTyrant

Netflix has released a new teaser trailer for Blue Eye SamuraiSeason 2, and we finally know when Mizu will return to continue her bloody quest for revenge!

The Emmy-winning animated series will officially return on January 19, 2027, taking its fierce swordswoman out of Japan and into the dangerous streets of London.

The new promo is mostly a release date announcement, with only a few quick shots of Season 2 footage appearing near the end. A previous teaser gave us a better look at what's coming, including glimpses of Mizu's journey to England, where she'll encounter new enemies, unexpected allies, and plenty of trouble.

The first season of Blue Eye Samurai was absolutely awesome! The animation was beautiful, the action sequences were brutal and beautifully choreographed, and the storytelling was strong. The writing gave us fascinating characters, complicated relationships, and an emotionally charged revenge story that kept me completely engaged.

That's a pretty high bar for Season 2 to clear, but I'm excited to see where the creative team takes Mizu next. Maya Erskine returns to voice Mizu, a mixed-race master swordswoman who has spent her life hiding her identity while hunting down the men responsible for her suffering.

Her pursuit of revenge now takes her to London, where she'll face unfamiliar dangers while confronting the personal demons that continue to drive her.

Meanwhile, things aren't getting any easier back in Japan. Akemi, voiced by Brenda Song, and Taigen, voiced by Darren Barnet, must navigate the dangerous political environment of Edo Castle under a new shogun. Ringo is also searching for a new purpose as the characters' stories continue to unfold. Masi Oka is also returning to the voice cast, although Netflix is keeping additional casting details under wraps.

The series' official description reads: "From a brutal time that fears and hates her, a warrior will rise." I'm especially curious to see how the London storyline plays out. Japan was such an important part of what made the first season visually and narratively compelling, so moving Mizu into an entirely different environment is a pretty significant change.

There's a lot of potential there, though, particularly when it comes to the people she'll encounter and how her experiences in England might change her.

Blue Eye Samurai was created by Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, whose writing credits include Logan, Blade Runner 2049, Murder on the Orient Express, The Call of the Wild, Jungle Cruise, A Haunting in Venice, and American Gods. Both return as writers and executive producers.

Jane Wu serves as supervising director and producer, with Haven Alexander and Nick Read also producing. The series is animated by Blue Spirit studio, with Noizumi, Green, and Erwin Stoff serving as executive producers.

What I loved most about the first season was how well everything worked together. The gorgeous animation wasn't just there to make the sword fights look cool.

It served a fantastic story filled with memorable characters, powerful emotional moments, and some genuinely surprising developments. Every episode gave us another reason to care about Mizu and the people caught up in her violent journey.

I'm hoping Season 2 can maintain that same level of quality while taking the story in some exciting new directions. There's still so much to explore with these characters, and I can't wait to see what happens next!

Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 premieres on Netflix January 19, 2027.
