Nathan Fielder and Elizabeth Holmes Have an Incredibly Awkward Exchange in YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING Trailer

Of all the people you could put in a room with Elizabeth Holmes, Nathan Fielder might be one of the more interesting choices. Now we finally get to see what happens when the two sit across from each other, and it looks every bit as strange and uncomfortable as you might expect.

Rumors have circulated for years that Nathan Fielder had been working on a secret documentary about Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, reportedly interviewing her and even visiting her in prison. That mysterious project is real, and it made a surprise debut Sunday night at the Telluride Film Festival.

Titled You Can See Everything, the A24 documentary follows Holmes during the final stretch before she begins serving her prison sentence, but apparently things expand into something much bigger and stranger over the course of three years.

The official description reads: “Thirty-four days before she’s sent to prison, notorious Silicon Valley founder Elizabeth Holmes invites a skeptical film crew to document her every move.

“What begins as an intimate portrait of an enigmatic felon becomes a mind-bending three-year journey into the abyss. From boundary-pushing directors Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim comes You Can See Everything.”

Fielder co-directed the Elizabeth Holmes documentary with Lance Oppenheim. Fielder is best known for Nathan For You and The Rehearsal, while Oppenheim directed the acclaimed documentary Some Kind of Heaven as well as Primetime, the recent Chris Hansen film starring Robert Pattinson that premiered to strong reviews at the Venice Film Festival.

A24 also released the first teaser trailer for You Can See Everything to coincide with its secret Telluride premiere, and the footage offers a wonderfully awkward taste of what Fielder and Oppenheim have cooked up.

The teaser centers on Fielder and Holmes sitting face-to-face, staring intensely at one another as they try to figure each other out.

Holmes awkwardly tells Fielder: “I don’t have anything to deceive you on. Of course I’m not deceiving you. I’m engaging with you as a human being. Why would I deceive you? There’s no reason for me to do that.”

Fielder responds in his wonderfully dry fashion: “OK. Alright. OK, good chat.” Then he asks: “You’re being real right now?” Holmes answers: “I’m always being real,”

Putting Fielder across from one of the most infamous figures to come out of Silicon Valley already gives this documentary a strange energy.

His work often revolves around uncomfortable human interactions, manipulation, performance, and the increasingly blurry space between what's genuine and what's being constructed for a camera. Holmes certainly gives him plenty to work with.

A24 will release You Can See Everything in theaters sometime in October. It’ll be interesting to see how it turns out.
