ITV Coronation Street's Helen Worth's love life - two husbands and secret to happy marriage
by Danni King · PlymouthLiveHelen Worth, known to millions as Gail Platt from Coronation Street, is a familiar face who has graced our screens for an astounding five decades since her arrival on the show in 1974. As she prepares to bid farewell to the famous cobbles, viewers can anticipate Gail's final scenes to be broadcast on Christmas Day.
In what promises to be a gripping exit plot, Gail plans to wed her new beau Jesse (portrayed by John Thomson), yet as with all good soap narratives, expect a twist or two before any bells chime.
Gail's character has seen a fair share of romantic entanglements, and should her marriage to Jesse go ahead, he would take the mantle as her seventh spouse setting Gail as Weatherfield's most oft-wed female resident.
On a contrasting note, Helen Worth's personal life is considerably more composed than her on-screen personas. She finds happiness with her current husband, school teacher Trevor Dawson.
The pair, who first connected at a mutual friends 90th birthday bash, are reputed to have felt sparks from their very first meeting. Reflecting fondly on her relationship during an appearance on This Morning in 2021, Helen extolled the virtues of her partner, expressing: "I met Trevor about 10 years ago and I just thank my lucky stars really. He's just gorgeous."
Their nuptials in 2012 at St James's Church in London was quite the event, attended by a host of their Coronation Street comrades, reports Lancs Live. The jubilant bride remarked at the time: "It's been the most fantastic day, it has exceeded all expectations. We are thrilled that so many of our friends and family could be here to celebrate with us."
Before marrying Trevor, Helen's first marriage was to Michael Angelis, known to many as the voice behind Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends. They tied the knot in 1991 but their marriage ended a decade later in 2001 following Michael's admission of an extramarital affair.
Four years into their union, Michael owned up to his indiscretions when he discovered that a tabloid was about to expose his affair with another woman. Reflecting on this challenging period, Helen previously confided in the Mirror: "The pictures were about to be published and he knew he had to tell me fast. He just said he was having an affair. I went through every emotion. I was hurt. Then angry. So angry. I tried to tell myself it wasn't happening."
Efforts to salvage their relationship ultimately failed, leading to their split in 2001 when additional images of Michael with his lover, Jennifer Khalastchi, came to light. Despite the turmoil, Helen and Michael preserved their friendship post-divorce, lasting until his passing in 2020.
