South Korean singer Wheesung, known for his soulful R&B performances in the 2000s, was found dead at his residence in Seoul on Monday, 10 March
According to The Korea Times, authorities said Wheesung, whose real name is Choi Whee-sung, was found unresponsive Monday evening at an apartment in Gwangjin District.
He was found by his mother, who then called emergency responders to the scene.
The cause of death has not yet been determined, but police said there were no signs of foul play.
His agency, Tajoy Entertainment, confirmed his death in a statement late on Monday
"Wheesung has left us. He was found suffering from cardiac arrest at his residence and was later pronounced dead," it said.
The company added that its staff and colleagues were "in deep sorrow".
Wheesung became famous for numerous hit songs, including With Me, Insomnia, and Even Thought of Marriage, after his debut in 2002
However, according to the New Straits Times, his music career was overshadowed in 2021 when he was convicted of being a habitual propofol user. He was sentenced to one year in prison.
Wheesung was scheduled to perform with singer KCM at an upcoming concert in Daegu on Saturday, 15 March.
"I've finished my diet. Let's meet on 15 March," he had written in his final Instagram post five days before his passing.
