THE LIVE FINALE of The Late Late Show Opening Act competition will be held tonight.

Five finalists are competing for the chance to open for global country music star Shania Twain at her Irish tour stop in Limerick’s Thomond Park this July.

The finalists will perform their rendition of a country classic in the hope of being crowned Ireland’s new Opening Act – which will also bag them the opportunity to perform on the Late Late Show Country Music Special next October.

Paddy Treacy from Fermanagh, Jesse Sludds from Wexford, Caitlin Mackin from Armagh, Midnight in Vegas, a girlband with members from Dublin, Waterford and Essex and Ryan Phoenix from Cork are all competing in tonight’s final.

The Late Late Show host Patrick Kielty will be joined by a panel of guests to offer their thoughts on the competition.

The panel includes Irish country music icons Una Healy and Sandy Kelly, UK artist Ben Earle, who is one half of successful country duo The Shires, and Irish radio broadcaster Tom Dunne.

Judging will be carried out by two juries made up of leading music industry and country music experts, but the public can vote and get their say in the final decision too.

The Late Late Show will also pay tribute to the late Moya Brennan, whose funeral was held today in St Patrick’s Church in Meenaveal in the parish of Gaoth Dobhair.
