The Inbetweeners could be making a comeback
by Emma Hickey, https://www.thejournal.ie/author/emma-hickey/ · TheJournal.ieFIFTEEN YEARS AFTER its third and final season aired, cult classic sitcom The Inbetweeners has been confirmed to make a return – in some form or another.
The show’s writers and creators, Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, have joined forces with the show’s distributor Banijay Rights to strike an agreement which “paves the way for the return of the hit comedy title”, Banijay UK said in a statement.
Morris and Beesley set up their own company Fudge Park Productions in 2015, which will work in collaboration with the distributor.
The Inbetweeners was a coming-of-age UK sitcom originally broadcast on E4 between 2008 and 2010. It followed four teenage friends: Will MacKenzie, Simon Cooper, Neil Sutherland, and Jay Cartwright, who were students at Rudge Park Comprehensive.

The show tracked the lives of the boys as they “navigated school life, friendship, male bonding, lad culture and failed sexual encounters”.
Although there were only 18 episodes in total, the show was a hit and there were two subsequent films, the latest of which was released in 2014.
Banijay said of the agreement: “This deal unlocks the rights and the potential to bring The Inbetweeners back for new audiences across a range of platforms including film, tv and stage.”
Managing Director at Fudge Park, Jonathan Blyth, said this marks a “wonderful moment for fans” and said there are “exciting conversations afoot and more news to follow…”
Meanwhile, Beesley and Morris jointly said: “Incredibly exciting to be plotting more adventures for our four favourite friends (ooh friends).”
Patrick Holland, CEO of Banijay UK, said the company is delighted to “pick uo the conversation about the future of The Inbetweeners”.
