Halo: Campaign Evolved announced for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5
by Aran Suddi · tsaWell, it has happened. Halo has been confirmed for PS5 (and Xbox Series X|S and PC). Halo: Campaign Evolved is a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved’s campaign but expanded with more content and some gameplay tweaks.
This version of Halo will have two player local co-op, but an expanded four player online co-op – this requires some of the level design to be expanded to accommodate more players three new missions, new enemies, more weapons including the iconic Battle Rifle that debuted in Halo 2, and more vehicles to use. Chief also gains some new moves from later games, like being able to hijack vehicles and the ability to sprint.
You can check out 13 minutes of Halo: Campaign Evolved, with the iconic Silent Cartographer level. You might note things like how the layout of the opening beach assault has changed to add a raised up bluff with additional cover for the Covenant, and that you can take the Warthog further into the island to battle the Brutes, where there were rocks in the way for the original game.
Halo: Campaign Evolved’s three new missions are prequels to the rest of Halo’s campaign featuring Master Chief and Sgt Johnson. You can check out a roundtable with the developers in the video below.
Halo: Campaign Evolved has been developed using Unreal Engine 5, with this remake of the original game being used as a bit of a testbed for Halo Studio (formerly 343 Industries) to capture the correct look and feel for the franchise going forward. While this is a ground-up remake in some ways, code from the original game is still being used in the background to give the gameplay the right feel.
Halo: Campaign Evolved will be released in 2026 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5. It will also be a day one game for the relevant tiers of Xbox Game Pass.
