Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game is going on an adventure to the Switch 2
by Dominic L · tsaThere are very few fantasy properties with the same cultural importance as The Lord of the Rings. While we’ve had the mainline films recently reappear in cinemas over the last couple of months, and the second season of Amazon’s Rings of Power taking over our streaming lives, in terms of gaming it’s been a while since the heyday of The Two Towers and Return of the King appeared on PS2 and Xbox. The most recent gaming entry took things in a completely different direction, with Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game letting you take on the life and livelihood of a Hobbit. As we love to hear on a daily basis, we’re now getting a Switch 2 version of the game, with the update set to launch on March 25th.

Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings game was plenty of fun at launch, though there were some bugs and issues depending on which format you were playing on. For all of those – some of which have now been patched out – I really enjoyed the mixture of Animal Crossing, Story of Seasons and Lord of the Rings, with a focus on friendship, cooking and interior decoration that just really worked for me.
It wasn’t much of a looker on the basic Switch though, and there was a real sense that you were missing out visually when playing on the platform. Hopefully, the increased power of the Switch 2 will see all of those visual foibles given the boot, and we can enjoy our Hobbit Holes in a much higher resolution.
The Switch 2 version will be available as both a seperate purchase, or as a free upgrade for owners of the Switch 1 version, which you love to see! This Switch 2 version does come as something of a surprise, as the expectation was that we weren’t getting any more updates for Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game. This does bring a little hope that a few of the remaining bugs might get ironed out, but, if not, at least our homes and gardens will look a lot prettier.
