Forza Horizon 6 full map revealed as it gears up to race through Japan
by Stefan L · tsaPlayground Games has revealed the full map for Forza Horizon 6, their upcoming open world racer which is heading to the long-awaited and much requested location of Japan.
As always, Forza Horizon 6’s map is an abstraction of a part of the country it’s set in, with Horizon Japan featuring the downtown streets of Tokyo City and the largest metropolis featured in the series to date, and then heading north up to the Japanese Alps.
The team highlights some of the famous routes that are included, from the C1 loop and Gingko Avenue to mountain passes Mt. Haruna and Bandai Azuma. Eagle-eyed fans have already spotted some of the race circuits in the world, with what looks like Tsukuba Circuit in its short form tucked away in the sprawl of roads. Gran Turismo fans will feel right at home!
Speaking during the Developer Direct stream earlier this year, Playground Games explained that they had brought in local consultants to ensure that the game’s environments and activities are authentic and not just “postcard tourism” – so there’s things like having 78 as the building number for your first home base, which is lucky in Japanese culture.
Once again the Horizon Festival is at the centre of all the racing that you’re taking on. The journey through the game starts as a tourist to Japan, having to first qualify for the Festival, earning wristbands and taking challenges to prove you’re worthy for the next stage and series of events. There’s a new event here with Horizon Rush, tasking you with weaving through obstacle courses to prove your skills. At the end of the road is Legend Island, an exclusive region of the world that only the pinnacle are able to visit.
Seasons will also make a return to Forza Horizon 6, and should be as impactful for the Japanese weather as they were for Forza Horizon 4 and its wildly different British seasons. Cherry blossoms in the spring are going to be delightful to see, and they’ll respond realistically to passing cars. It’s built around a ton of photogrammetric data capture of the world, providing the foundation for the world – within that, Tokyo City is five times larger than any urban city before, featuring multiple distinct and visually different districts, but there’s also a broad swathe of countryside too.
Forza Horizon 6 is launching on 19th May for Xbox Series X|S and PC, with a day 1 launch into the applicable tiers of Game Pass. It will also come to PlayStation 5 at a later date.
