Highguard will be shut down on March 12th
by Aran Suddi · tsaWildlight Entertainment has announced that it will be shutting down Highguard on March 12th. A few weeks ago, Wildlight laid off a majority of its staff but even last week new content was released for the game in the form of a Raid Rush mode. On the official Discord, there was confirmation that there would be a bit more content for players to enjoy before the shut down.
In a statement, Wildlight Entertainment said, “Today we’re sharing difficult news. We have made the decision to permanently shut down Highguard on March 12. Since launch, more than 2 million players stepped into Highguard’s world. You shared feedback, created content, and many believed in what we were building. For that, we are deeply grateful.
Despite the passion and hard work of our team, we have not been able to build a sustainable player base to support the game long term. Servers will remain online until March 12th. We hope you’ll jump in with us one more time to show your support and get those final great matches in while we still can.The team is excited to release one final game update to enjoy in the remaining life of the game. We’ll be adding a new Warden, a new weapon, account level progression, and skill trees! Full patch notes are coming, and we’re targeting tonight or tomorrow morning for patch release. From all of us at Wildlight, thank you for playing, for supporting us, and for being part of Highguard’s story.”
In the Discord, admin WL-Coronach said, “Very bummed about today’s news. I’m sorry we didn’t have more time to continue to fix the gameplay issues and make Highguard as good as possible for everyone. I’m glad we’re getting out Koldo, Skill Trees, and the Switchback for you guys to enjoy in the meantime. ( Those were the content drops I was excited about ) I’m very grateful to the mods who have helped out and made this discord a nice place to be.”
Highguard was revealed as the final game during The Game Awards, getting a very mixed reaction. At the time Jim asked Why are gamers hoping Highguard will be dead on arrival?, following the negative reactions to Highguard’s reveal. In our review, Dom said, “Highguard’s first steps into the PvP arena are confident and unashamed, despite what the angry voices on the internet might tell you. The slightly odd mix of Apex Legends, Rainbow Six and He-Man actually makes for a good time, and there’s so much room for more to happen here. That will take time, and I hope that it finds the audience it needs to thrive.”
