Super Mario Bros. Wonder: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is coming next year

It’s Nintendo Direct time once more, and this week’s focus is Mario’s 40th anniversary. While that makes me feel as though my life is coming to an end, there’s a wealth of Mario games that Nintendo can draw on for the brand new Nintendo Switch 2. The last 2D Super Mario game, Super Mario Bros. Wonder was a delightful and elephant-filled platformer whose renewed visuals and unique ideas kept the series spinning along very happily. Switch 2 owners can rejoice then, as Super Mario Bros. Wonder: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will launch in Spring 2026.

Tef loved it at the time, giving it a massive 9/10, and saying, “Super Mario Bros. Wonder puts a fresh new spin on the classic Mario side-scroller with wild and trippy level transformations. It’s still Mario at its core, but it’s fun not knowing what to expect from each level. This could be the start of a bright new era for 2D Mario games.”

Like previous Nintendo Switch 2 editions, you can expect higher resolutions, improved frame rates and an altogether glossier experience than on the good old original Nintendo Switch. In addition there’s going to be a host of new content as well, making it ideal for previous fans to jump back in again.

While the Direct failed to mention exactly what all this new content will be, it did showcase its all-new local multiplayer area, coming under the title Meet Up In Belabel Park. This new mode caters for up to four players, with a massive selection of fun, competitive and cooperative experiences, from one which sees some players drawing donut platforms while two other players have to survive jumping through the level with their help through to ones tasking you with collecting the most coins or retaining the most lives while you engage in various jumping and platforming shenanigans. It all looks plenty of fun, and very Nintendo!
