The first teaser for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic The Odyssey has surfaced online, days before its official theatrical debut. Though the footage was initially intended to be seen exclusively in cinemas alongside Universal’s Jurassic World Rebirth, clips began appearing on social media platforms like X, prompting swift takedowns under copyright infringement notices.

Continuing his commitment to theatrical-first releases, Nolan has chosen to premiere the teaser over a year in advance, mirroring the rollout strategy of Oppenheimer, which earned multiple Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

Running for just over a minute, the teaser offers the first look at Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic. Matt Damon stars as Odysseus, with Tom Holland playing his son Telemachus, and Jon Bernthal appearing in an as-yet-unnamed role. The footage begins with narration from what appears to be Robert Pattinson, setting the tone over images of a stormy ocean.

“Darkness. Zeus’ laws smashed to pieces. A kingdom without a king since my master died,” Pattinson’s voice says, as sweeping shots show crashing waves and the shadow of the Trojan Horse on a desolate shore.

The teaser offers glimpses of the fall of Troy, as well as a dramatic exchange between Holland’s Telemachus and Bernthal’s character, discussing the mystery surrounding Odysseus’s disappearance. A fiery scene follows, with Bernthal demanding to know who among the men gathered has a story about the missing king.

The trailer closes with flashes of battle, stormy seas, and a final image of Odysseus stranded alone on debris in the open ocean. The screen fades to black with the title The Odyssey and a release date: “17.07.26.”

Nolan’s upcoming film features a large ensemble cast, including Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, and others. The film is currently in production and is being shot entirely with IMAX cameras. While the teaser has yet to be officially released online, it is expected to drop later this year.
