Molly-Mae Hague gets candid about her drop in 'confidence' as she shares hidden struggle

by · Manchester Evening News

Molly-Mae Hague has opened up about her struggles with anxiety in her new documentary series with her drop in confidence after her split with Tommy Fury last summer.

After coupling up on popular ITV2 dating show Love Island in 2019, the couple seemingly went from strength to strength after moving in together, getting engaged in Ibiza and Molly giving birth to their daughter Bambi in 2023. However, life behind the scenes was quite a different story as Tommy admitted in an interview with Men's Health that he "had a problem with alcohol" that led to problems in the relationship and thus the break up.

Speaking openly in her new tell-all documentary, Molly-Mae: Behind It All, the social media mogul shared: "He wanted a family life but also have the life of a 25-year-old boy with no responsibilities, and the two don’t go hand-in-hand."

Molly-Mae launched her clothing line Maebe in 2024, with the brand described as "a non-seasonal brand crafted to elevate your everyday wardrobe. With a focus on high-quality pieces designed for daily wear, the brand draws inspiration from traditional British heritage, reimagining timeless classics that exude quality." The first drop sold out in 24 minutes, with the restock selling out completely in under three.

Despite this being her first clothing line, Molly-Mae has previously collaborated with Pretty Little Thing as well as becoming creative director for them in 2021 before stepping down from the role to focus on being a mum.

It's no surprise then that hundreds of fans lined up to visit her pop-up store in London as she debuted the brand, with some flying over from New Zealand and South Africa for the chance to meet the star. While consistently spreading gratitude and taking pictures with as many individuals as she could, behind the curtain Molly-Mae expressed how overwhelmed she was really feeling.

She shared: "It feels strange to be launching Maebe without Tommy by my side, but I know I just have to put a brave face on and get on with it." As she entered her own pop-up she was swarmed by fans asking for pictures, with the star saying "yeah, of course you can!" after every request for a selfie.

Reflecting on the experience, she admitted: "I've never done anything like this before and I do get quite nervous sometimes. I'm not really a very social person, much to everyone's surprise."

Due to the break up, Molly revealed: "I'm feeling not as confident... things are a bit up in the air." As the documentary then continued to show the pop-up, Molly was being asked what she wants to do now as she feared she'd disappoint fans if she didn't take pictures with them all.

She continued: "I can put on a brave face in certain situations, but underneath I can feel really anxious." After standing outside the back door of the event taking hundreds more pictures and chatting to as many fans as she could, Molly retreated to the safety of her team as she became even more overwhelmed.

"I'm standing in crisp packets and cigarettes on the street next to a trap door. It doesn't look good" she exclaimed, visibly upset. She openly shared: "I feel a bit sick and I feel like crying because I'm not enjoying myself at all."

As Molly put on a brave face the camera crew followed as she walked back outside to say she'll say everyone in there. Fans lowered their phones as no pictures were being taken, and Molly rushed back inside and said: "I'm not doing that ever again. That does not work. I go out there and it's silence. That was awful."

Her team rallied around her to comfort her as she began to cry, as she expressed: "It's not going like I planned. I feel like I can't even speak to anyone." In her own home, removing her makeup, she told the documentary: "I was overwhelmed. If I didn't give them my time I would have felt like I let them down." She added: "It pushed me out of my comfort zone, but I'm really, really proud of myself."

Molly-Mae: Behind It All is a six part series. The first three parts are out now on Prime. The latter three episodes will drop in Spring 2025.
