BBC Gavin and Stacey's Uncle Bryn star shares moment viewers didn't see in final amid major complaint

Gavin and Stacey star Rob Bryson has shared a sweet moment from the final viewers didn't get to see amid a major complaint. The actor was among the show's cast reprising their roles for the last ever episode of the much-loved series.

The 'perfect' Christmas Day episode saw characters Neil 'Smithy' Smith and Vanessa 'Nessa' Jenkins finally get their happy ending, five years on from the proposal cliffhanger during the last Christmas special in 2019.

The 90-minute festive episode also revealed that Stacey’s mother, Gwen West, was in a secret relationship with Nessa's ex Dave Coaches, and there was more drama between Dawn and Pete Sutcliffe.

Gavin and Stacey: The Finale kicked off in both Billericay, Essex, and Barry, South Wales, as the family of Stacey and her husband Gavin prepared for a wedding – presumed to be between Smithy and Nessa after she got down on one knee during the last Christmas special in 2019.

However, fans were initially disappointed to discover the wedding was between Smithy and Sonia – his girlfriend from the 2019 Christmas Day episode.. The new special episode revealed that Nessa’s previous proposal was interrupted before Smithy could give his answer and the pair never discussed it again.

Fast-forward to the wedding day and, after a series of bridezilla moments, ring bearer and best man Gavin tells Smithy during the ceremony that he thinks he is making a mistake marrying Sonia. After many guests – including Neil the Baby, Smithy and Nessa’s teenage son – stand up when asked if anyone else objects to the marriage, Smithy realises he has to confess his true love and leaves Sonia a jilted bride.

The gang then embark on a race against time to reach Nessa before she sets off from Southampton Dock to work on the ships, as Neil the Baby is set to move to Essex to begin an apprenticeship with his father. After a famously on-off relationship, Smithy proposed to Nessa and the final scene features a heartwarming montage of a low-key wedding, with Nessa sporting a black dress and the couple finally getting their happily ever after.

But Rob shared a picture from the moment Nessa was forced to explain Bryn's absence when the Shipman's were woken on the day of what should have been Smithy's stag hours late and hungover following a pre-stag and hen party the night before at Pam and Mick's.

In the scene, Nessa explained Bryn wasn't in a good way and alongside a photo of the pair, with actress Ruth Jones sporting a robe while her co-star wore a white vest, actor Rob wrote on Instagram: "'I've been rubbing his back, singing him songs...' #gavinandstaceychristmasspecial.

It comes after fans were not best pleased that they will never find out what happened on that now infamous trip - and have demanded answers - urging show creators Ruth and James Corden to make more Gavin and Stacey for that reason.
