Michelle Keegan's 'most successful comedy' series axed after seven seasons

Michelle Keegan's popular Sky drama Brassic, where she has shone in the leading role of Erin, is reportedly set to be axed.

Keegan, who is expecting her first child with husband Mark Wright, has garnered a fresh wave of admirers through her portrayal in Brassic. Despite the show's recent acclaim, TV executives have decided to pull the plug after its six-year run, suggesting that ending the series isn't necessarily negative.

The actress, who initially rose to fame on Coronation Street, has been at the forefront of Brassic alongside co-star Joe Gilgun since its debut in 2019. The currently in-production seventh series, which will broadcast later this year, will mark the final chapter for the beloved characters.

Creators of the show have expressed their amazement at how far the programme has come. Just last week, Keegan was on set filming and did not hint to fans that her character Erin would soon be leaving their screens for good, reports the Mirror.

Danny Brocklehurst, the co-creator and writer, shared: "When Joe Gilgun and I sat down to create Brassic, we couldn't have imagined, in our wildest dreams, that we would do seven series and gather such a loyal and loving fan base.

"It's been a complete joy to create this eccentric world, but all good things must come to an end, and we want to stop while we are still riding high. Maybe they can finally give us that BAFTA."

Despite the cancellation news, Sky has recently announced that Brassic stands as their most successful comedy series across the network thus far.

"Fans very quickly became attached to this dynamic group of friends, as they found unconventional ways to win at life in northern suburbia," a spokesperson for the network expressed.

They continued: "We would like to thank Joe Gilgun, Danny Brocklehurst and the whole cast and crew past and present for bringing us all a truly iconic series, which we've loved for its special mix of hilarity and heart."

Following the announcement of the show's cancellation, fans have voiced their disappointment on social media platforms. One wrote: "Devastated abut #Brassic being cancelled... a hell of a show." (sic)

Another chimed in: "Six years late to the party, but over the last couple of months I have watched all six seasons of #Brassic, and I think it is one of the best British shows of this century. It is absolutely superb. You will laugh and you will cry, and I can't recommend it enough." (sic)

Recently, Michelle shared some behind-the-scenes glimpses of the chilly filming antics on Instagram, including snowy selfies and moments of camaraderie with her co-stars.

In one notable image, she's seen skilfully concealing her bump under a green crew coat and relaxed cargos, her hair styled in character Erin's signature half-up curls, while she attentively reads her script.

All six seasons of Brassic are available to stream via Sky Maz or NOW. The first four seasons are also on Netflix.
