ITV Grantchester's Robson Green 'doesn't want pity' as he opens up about ageing
by Matt Jackson · Manchester Evening NewsRobson Green was left "devastated" after being given a brutal one-word description during a recent medical.
The actor secured his first major role over three decades ago as hospital porter Jimmy Powell in Casualty. He has since been a fixture in popular series such as ITV's Wire in Blood, Soldier Soldier, Grantchester and various fishing documentaries.
Despite turning 60 last month, Robson doesn't indulge in birthday celebrations, preferring to make "every day special". He confessed that in his youth, he used to look at those in their sixties and wonder "how are you still alive".
In an interview with Woman's Weekly, Robson shared: "Funnily enough, I had a medical recently for a job I did and the guy referred to me as elderly. I was devastated."
"That's what people do when you're 60. I won't want their awe, their pity or the label of being older.", reports the Daily Record.

The milestone birthday didn't see Robson popping champagne; he admits he "doesn't drink really" after reducing his alcohol consumption 15 years ago. Where he once enjoyed "a few wines or a champagne" in the evening, he now prefers sparkling water and the resulting "clarity," which he finds "great".
Instead of taking the time out to celebrate though, Robson is busy at work, filming a new drama in Spain alongside The Crown star Jason Watkins.
When not acting, Robson likes to film documentaries about fishing and his home county of Northumberland. The star lives in the North East with his partner Zoila Short, and is close to his 24-year-old son Taylor, from his marriage to Vanya Seager.
He's also taken on the role of producer on Grantchester while maintaining his leading part in the series, which is now in its ninth run. On-set camaraderie is high, according to Robson, who reveals that the cast have "the most wonderful time".
Meanwhile, co-star Tom Brittney prepares to exit the show, a path once trodden by James Norton, but Green is enthusiastic about continuing the Grantchester journey. Catch the latest series of 'Grantchester' currently airing Wednesdays at 9pm on ITV One and ITVX.
