BBC Strictly Come Dancing star says she's going to 'proper dance classes' after 2024 series axe

by · Manchester Evening News

A recently axed Strictly Come Dancing star has said she wants to 'learn how to dance' after years of being apprehensive of taking it up as a hobby. Dr Punam Krishan suffered a Halloween horror when she left the BBC One dance contest last month.

The Morning Live star had made it through to week five of the hit show which happened to be the Halloween spooktacular. But she and dance partner Gorka Marquez came joint bottom of the scoreboard alongside Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell after their tango to Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics which saw them dressed as pirates.

The Halloween week results show at the end of last month then saw Punam and Gorka faced the dance-off against former X Factor winner Shayne Ward and Nancy Xu.

After both couples had danced a second time, the judges unanimously decided to save Shayne and Nancy. But despite leaving the BBC show on Halloween week, Punam, who is a GP in Scotland, said she was "proud" of herself for stepping out of her "comfort zone".

Since then, Punam has been seen supporting her co-star from afar while Gorka has been seen back live in the ballroom on a Saturday night alongside host Claudia Winkleman in the 'Claudatorium'.

But this week, after a day of working at her GP practice, Punam shared how she was spending her evening and revealed she was heading to her 'first ever' dance class. She said in a video to her fans and followers: "I am so excited because I'm about to go to my first-ever proper dance class!"

The mum-of-two then explained: "Now you're probably thinking, 'You've just done Strictly so wasn't that like dancing lessons?' In a way, yes, but I've always wanted to learn how to dance but just never had the guts to do it and it got to the point where I was like, it's too late to do that, it's the kind of thing that my kids are doing now.

"But if anything, Strictly has massively ignited that love for dancing even more and I just don't want to stop. So I've joined the dance studio me and Gorka did all our training in and I've found a class that works to my schedule." Punam added: "I'm just buzzing. It's a form of fitness I feel just works for me. Wish me luck!"

She later posted an update after the class and beaming for a photo in the training room, Punam said: "So much fun tonight @danceglasgow - reunited with the best team and love, love, LOVED dancing again."
