BBC Call the Midwife Christmas Special: What time it's on and full cast list

Another Christmas visit to Nonnatus House is on the horizon thanks to a festive special of Call the Midwife. After becoming a holiday staple in many households, the BBC period drama that follows a close group of midwives in London's East End will be split into two 60-minute episodes for the first time ever, complete with a Christmas cliffhanger.

As Poplar prepares for a carol concert and funfair amongst the frosty landscape, the special tells the tale of an escaped prisoner that causes fear to grow amongst the neighbourhood due to a recent spate of break-ins, as well as influenza and the Hong Kong flu arriving in town amid celebrations. Alongside, of course, the usual warmth and festivities the show brings to viewers' screens.

While discussing the Christmas special, the show's creator and writer Heidi Thomas OBE said: "Who doesn't love finding an extra, unexpected present underneath the Christmas tree? When I was asked to write a two-part Christmas special for 2024, I couldn't resist."

Executive producer Dame Pippa Harris added: "For the first time, viewers can luxuriate in a two-part festive treat this Christmas. Heidi has created a spellbinding special which I know will delight our loyal fans."

When does the new series of Call the Midwife start?

Last month, the BBC confirmed that the new season of Call the Midwife had entered its final week of filming. In an Instagram post, the show teased: "There is a real end-of-school feel to things here, and the cast are really enjoying each other's company."

Season 14 of Call the Midwife will air in early 2025. The season kicks off with the two-part Christmas special on Christmas Day 8pm and Boxing Day 7:30pm on BBC One.
