EastEnders fan sparks chaos after spotting incredible Doctor Who cameo in 40th special

BBC's Eastenders' live episode airs tonight to celebrate its 40th anniversary on screens, and though viewers have speculated who will be returning, there was a special Doctor Who cameo in last night's instalment

An eagle-eyed EastEnders fan has spotted an incredible Doctor Who cameo in the BBC soap's 40th anniversary special as Albert Square faces more chaotic drama.

Tonight's episode will be broadcast live from Albert Square with show bosses teasing anything could happen. Viewers will be given the ultimate power as they will get to decide the outcome in a soap first. The live episode is "set to change Walford, and the lives of those who live in it forever".

In celebration of the soap's 40th anniversary week, major icons have returned to Walford. Wednesday night saw dramatic scenes following its special hour long episode showing the aftermath of the Queen Vic fire. However, not everyone will make it out of the pub alive following the shocking events on Tuesday that led to the fire.

Earlier in the week, it was revealed Kathy had attacked Cindy on Christmas Day. An altercation with Ian led to Cindy 'accidentally' shooting him in the arm, and a further row between the pair had Cindy pushing Ian into the road and into the path of Reiss's car. He swerved to miss Ian, but instead crashed into gas cans that exploded in the beloved Queen Vic.

If that wasn't enough drama to keep viewers going, one eagle-eyed EastEnders fan spotted an incredible Doctor Who cameo after Wednesday's episode. The viewer took to X to compare audio screams after viewers watched The Queen Vic burn to the ground in shocking scenes. In one particular scene, Jack Branning was standing outside the pub before the iconic Queen Vic sign came crashing down in front of him. Viewers heard a haunting scream from a female cast member - but it was a familiar sound to one particular viewer.

After the thrilling episode, the fan took to X to reveal that the same scream was used in a Doctor Who episode from 2007. "Forget Angie Watts the real star of tonight’s episode was the return of woman screaming in distress from Doctor Who in 2007," the fan wrote alongside a video comparing the two screeches.

Naturally, other EastEnders fans were shocked that the eagle-eyed viewer remembered the Doctor Who scream from 18 years ago. One commented: "How did you not only recognise but remember a specific scream from a show 18 years old!?!? Fair play." To which the EastEnders fan replied: "For some reason that scream has been etched on my brain because no one screams like that."

Another joked: "Your talent for recognising screams should be monetised, but I don't know how. It's so crazy that you actually put two and two together here and came up with this." In response, the fan joked: "A jobs a job at the end of the day."

EastEnders' 40th anniversary live episode airs tonight at 7.30pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
