ASAP Rocky reveals huge new career move days after not guilty verdict in firearm case
ASAP Rocky was found not guilty on two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm on Tuesday and has now announced his latest creative role
by Jamie Roberts · The MirrorJust days after ASAP Rocky was found not guilty on firearms charges, he has announced a huge new role.
The rapper, 36, appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom to find out his fate on Tuesday after being charged on two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. The verdict was good news for the star, who immediately ran to his partner Rihanna for an emotional embrace as those in attendance screamed with glee.
The three-week trial ended with the rapper, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, being able to go free. As he left the courtroom with his partner, three-time Grammy nominee Rocky told the jurors: "Thank y’all for saving my life."
Now, Rocky took to Instagram to share his newest opportunity - the first Creative Director for upmarket brand Ray-Ban. He shared the brand's post on his Stories. On the company's main post, over 100,000 people liked the news and quickly shared their thoughts in the comments section. One user wrote: "In Rihanna's words 'I got my Ray ban's on I'm feeling hella good tonight'," followed by clapping hands emojis.
Another penned: "This is amazing," while a third said: "Beat a charge and got a new bag," alongside an emoji face with sunglasses on.
Following his not guilty verdict, Rocky quickly praised the work of his legal team and made a unique pledge. The star shares sons RZA, two, and Riot Rose, one, with Rihanna, and the doting dad made it clear that he was terrified to go to jail and leave his family behind.
And now the lawyer who represented him has opened up on what the star told him after walking free. Rocky was represented by lawyer Joe Tacopina in the lengthy case. Tacopina has revealed to Extra: "Rihanna and Rocky said to me in the courtroom yesterday, they grabbed me and they said, 'Listen, our next baby is A$AP Joe'."
He added that Rocky told him he “loved” him, and called him “family” while sharing his gratitude after the hearing. He went on to explain that at the 2023 Super Bowl - when Rihanna revealed her second pregnancy while performing at the halftime show - he “wound up accidentally babysitting for the first child.”
He described how Rocky was there with RZA while Rihanna prepared for the main half time event. Rocky then apparently asked the lawyer whether he’d be willing to look after his baby so that he could glam up with a pedicure. “So I babysat for an hour and a half," he said. "There was a different type of relationship with him than with most clients."
